Since 1982 there is our eyeglass manufactory Wollenweber in Bodenbach in the Vulkaneifel.
We are an owner-operated family business specializing exclusively in natural horn eyeglasses. Each of our frames is handmade and finished with great attention to detail by our employees. We are thus one of the very few German companies that still practice this art.
Our customers include fashion trendsetters or simply people who see their glasses not just as a short-lived fashion accessory, but as an expression of their individuality and personality.
Our company founder Dieter Wollenweber first learned his trade at the Coelln Optik company in Senscheid. And there he enjoyed a training that was as long-lasting as it was intensive. He then built up a production facility for Team Optic in Switzerland, where he passed on his skills and knowledge. Incidentally, during these years of professional development, he also met his future wife Marita, who ventured into self-employment with him.
In 1982 the time had come. First-class educated, but with only their creative ideas on the founder's account, Dieter and Marita Wollenweber started courageously, joyfully and passionately with the production of their first own horn-rimmed eyeglasses under difficult conditions and practically from nothing in the outbuilding of an Eifel farmstead in Bodenbach. Due to the creative talent and inventiveness of the founder, "Wollenweber hornline" was able to make a positive "name" for itself as a manufacturer. Dieter Wollenweber developed always new exciting and optically striking material combinations with the natural material buffalo horn as the first horn glasses manufacturer at all. It is a particularly complex handicraft manufacturing process in which the basis of each pair of horn-rimmed glasses, the horn plate, could be provided with wood or silk laminations and thus completely new and natural color and shape designs were possible.
With the handover in 2019 to the two daughters Sarah and Vanessa, it is ensured that the high craftsmanship of making horn-rimmed glasses will be preserved and that these small works of art in eyewear will continue to be produced and distributed.
